Using Your Credit Card Overseas

Before you board an airplane to head overseas, take a moment to review your Dollars and Cents - or should we say Euros and Pounds. Using a credit card abroad can come with challenges and some hefty fees.

Your UNIGLOBE Expert takes a closer look at Chip
and Pin technology and offers advice to minimize international credit card charges.

Welcome To London Heathrow International Airport

London Heathrow is already the fourth busiest airport in the world and as it is serving approximately 80% of Olympic travelers, this airport will only become more chaotic. With so much more travel in and out of London this month, the airport will be serving an additional 250 jumbo jets. A word of advice: don't travel through Heathrow on August 13th after the conclusion of the Olympics as the airport is expecting to see over 200,000 items of luggage.

Fly Through Security at PIT

With many airlines now charging for checked baggage, frequent travelers are noticing an increase in carry-on baggage. This is why Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) took a lesson from supermarket express checkout lanes and added an innovative way for those traveling light to fly through security. The airport has introduced an Express Lane Service for travelers who have no more than one item – this includes purses, brief cases, computer cases, etc. (you can still carry a coat). That means passengers with a carry-on and another item such as a computer bag would be required to enter any one of the other regular security lines.

Control The Hotel's TV Without A Remote

The LodgeNet app allows a user to control their hotel room TV right from their mobile device. Turn the volume up or down, change the channel, scroll through TV and VOD listings, stream movie trailers, search a list of local events, concerts and attractions and access front desk services such as wake-up calls and room service. It even has a 'click-to-dial' for housekeeping.

Lodgenet is the provider of TV and entertainment media to 85% of the hospitality industry including  well-known chains as Marriott, Sheraton, and Holiday Inn. The App is currently available in over 500,000 guestrooms nation wide. To activate the free app on your iPhone, iPad or Android device simply turn on the TV in your hotel room and enter the displayed access code.
